Classic Perisphinctes Ammonite from Poitiers,  France.  From the  Middle Jurassic period,  150 million years old.   Although relatively common, Perisphinctes serve as an index fossil for the period – see our geology blog and as such deserve a place in any collection.   The appeal of this ammonite is that it remains as found – unpolished and intact –  as it was in the ground for so many millions years.  Incredible.
