In stock (can be backordered)
Cleoniceras Ammonite from Madagascar, halved and polished to show the ‘sutures’, somewhat similar to tree rings, the markings of the gas compartments which aided their buoyancy, as early squid-like creatures. This specimen is from the Lower Cretaceous period, 110 million years ago.
These ammonites became available about 10 yrs ago and are now highly collectable but also snapped up across the market for their highly decorative and entrancing detail. This specimen has lovely rich brown and gold calcite with distinct markings and some crystal chambers. Supplied with a stand.
A magnificent giant pair of Cleoniceras Ammonite halves were sold on the Channel Four programme, ‘Four Rooms’, to the equally lovely Tamara Beckwith.
A small selection of these ammonite pairs are available, larger and smaller, please contact us to discuss your specific requirements.
